Q:chat server for DU4.0B

Does anyone know of chat server software appropriate for DU4.0B Alpha
3000-600, appropriate for limited use by a 20 student class. Information
needed: software, ftp source, price, hardware requirements, and pitfalls.
Would like to find a small educational use only system which would not
affect operating system performance greatly. TIA.
