Summary: top on 8400 DU 4.0b core dumps

Thanks to everyone who replied. All my previous attempts to build top had
been with version 3.3.
I transferred a fresh copy of version 3.4 from ftp://eecs.nwu.edu/pub/top/,
took all the defaults in Configure
except using gcc, did the make, make install and it worked.
