Once upon a time, I asked for assistance getting a second NIC,
a DE500, installed and running at 100 Mb/second. I had the
hardware properly installed, but could not get the OS (DU4.0A)
to detect the card.
Here's what needs to happen:
* Boot the system off the /genvmunix kernel (boot -fi "genvmunix")
* Build a new kernel
* Move the new kernel to /vmunix
* Shutdown
(I had neglected to boot off /genvmunix before building a new kernel)
* At the console prompt, set the appropriate interface speed for
the DE500 (set ewb0_mode fast)
(ewa0 is the existing interface [on the combo board], ewb0 is the
newly-added DE500)
* Boot normally
When the system boots, there should be a blurb about device tu1
(the second NIC)--that means the device is configured in the kernel
* Run the GUI network tool (or setup or use ifconfig)
* Configure tu1
* Deconfigure tu0
And now the network interface is running at 100 Mb/second.
Hats off to the following folks for their help:
* Eric Ayers (eric_at_compgen.com)
* Shane Caple (scaple_at_banda.ntu.edu.au)
* Richard Renshaw (rrens_at_hcia.com)
* Paul Sand (pas_at_cisunix.unh.edu)
* Robert Suh (robs_at_amazon.com)
* Gyula Szokoly (szgyula_at_tarkus.pha.jhu.edu)
Thanks so much!
