Dear managers,
We have an application here that has been ported from a microsoft windows
environment to X-Windows by way of the Wind/U software by bristol
technologies.
The application comes from an external company and is running OK when we
are in an X windows environment. The problem is that the way we use this
application, it does not have to display anything in a window. There is a
batch mode and it runs without displaying anything.
When we try to start it from a telnet connection in a character environment,
it complains that it cannot open the display. We fear that the problem is
not with the application but with Wind/U that insists on having an X
display in order to start the app, even if it doesn't need one.
So, it tries to open a display even if it doesn't need it. We plan to run
that application with the CA Unicenter scheduler. I understand that in that
case, there cannot be an X terminal open...
Is there a way to redirect the display to some kind of NULL display for
that particular application ? For example, can we set DISPLAY=0.0.0.0:0 ?
We don't care if nothing shows up because there is nothing to show !
Any help would be appreciated.
