I'm trying to set up an alias IP address on one of my interfaces (in
preparation to setting up others), and I'm getting anomalous
results.
From /etc/rc.config:
NETDEV_0="te0"
IFCONFIG_0="198.115.138.23 netmask 255.255.255.0"
When I try to add an alias, it *appears* to work:
# ifconfig te0 alias 198.115.138.27 netmask 255.255.255.0
#
but then the display gets really strange:
# ifconfig te0
te0: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
inet 198.115.138.23 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 198.115.138.27 ipmtu 1500
Notice that the broadcast address has changed to the alias address?
This doesn't happen *all* the time, either, and I haven't been able
to track down the particulars of when it does.
Are there Hidden Secrets to setting up alias addresses on DU 3.2?
Such as specifying particular arguments to ifconfig in a particular
order or something? I want to make sure I get it working correctly
online before I put it in rc.config and expect it to work properly
on an unattended reboot.
And is there any way to get ifconfig to display *all* the
information about an interface, such as all the alias addresses
assigned to it?
