Hai Managers,
I Wrote ...
We are planning to upgrade the software on AlphaServer from DU 3.2d to
4.0c. We have Oracle 7.2 running on the machine, which too we are
upgrading to Oracle 7.3.2.1.0.
Right now, we have Oracle 7.3.2.1.0 on DU 3.2 CD available with us.
Should we get an upgrade for Oracle as well, ie: Oracle 7.3 for DU 4.0c
from Oracle Corp,or
can we carry-on to install Oracle 7.3 from 3.2 CD onto DU 4.Oc.
Has anybody had an experience with this kind of an upgrade. Appreciate a
quick response. Will summarise.TIAThomas

NOTES----- 1. Patches are necessary to run on Digital UNIX V4.0, V4.0a &
V4.0b.
These apply to single instance databases. See above for parallel
server.
O/S Oracle Patch
--------------------------------------
4.0 / 4.0a / 4.0b 7.1.6.2 394748
4.0 / 4.0a / 4.0b 7.2.3 397548
4.0 / 4.0a 7.3.2.2 396674
4.0 / 4.0a / 4.0b 7.3.2.3 424307
7.2.2.3 or 7.2.2.4 will NOT be certified with Digital UNIX
4.0/4.0a/4.0b.
2. Digital UNIX 3.2 vanilla version, 3.2a and 3.2b are no longer
supported
with Oracle. This is also true for releases 3.0 and below.
Release 3.2d-2 is supported for Oracle versions that have been
certified
with Release 3.2d-1. However Oracle hasn't been certified against
3.2d-2.
3. Digital UNIX 3.2c, 3.2d-1, 3.2e, 3.2f and 3.2g will continue to be
supported.
4. 7.3.2.3 is a MANDATORY patch that must be applied to 7.3.2.1 or
7.3.2.2,
because of this, 7.3.2.1 will NOT be certified against Digital Unix
4.0, &
7.3.2.1 is NOT a supported release.
7.3.2.2 will not be certified against Digital UNIX 4.0b, nor any
future
releases of Digital UNIX.
5. With 7.3.2.2 in both single and parallel instance setups, we
recommend the
installation of patch 397524. (Backport of 393636).
6. 7.2.2.4 is a patch that must be applied after 7.2.2.3 has been
installed
7. OSF/1 is now officially called Digital Unix
8. Oracle release 7.3.2.3 is orderable now. It is a patch install, and
can be applied to releases 7.3.2.1 or 7.3.2.2.
9. After upgrading to 7.3.2.3, a patch for basebug 424581 is NOT needed.
Development have confirmed this fix is already in the 7.3.2.3
release.
(see Backport request 425425)
10. Only Digital UNIX releases 3.2e, 3.2f, 3.2g and 4.0a support
Clusters.
4.0 does NOT support Clusters hence it can NOT support Oracle
Parallel
Server.
11. Before running Parallel Server with releases 7.3.2.2.0 or 7.3.2.3.0
apply patch 420001.
12. After upgrading a database from 7.0 or 7.1.3 to 7.3.2.2 you must
apply a
patch otherwise the database will fail to start with ORA-7362
errors.
This happens with both Digital UNIX 3.2 and 4.0. Contact Oracle
Worldwide
support for patch 417198.
This problem is fixed in Release 7.3.2.3, so if you upgrade to this
release
you'll be okay.
13. Certification is complete for Oracle under Digital UNIX 4.0b.
Oracle versions 7.1.6.2, 7.2.3.0.0 and 7.3.2.3 are certified to run
on this Release. 7.3.2.2 is NOT certified against 4.0b.
14. The next full release of Oracle on Digital UNIX is expected to be
7.3.3.
This is currently scheduled for release in the 2nd Quarter of 1997.
(ie in the April->June timeslice).15. Workgroup Server is now
wavailable.
It requires Digital UNIX 4.0 as a MINIMUM requirement. it will NOT
run
on any versions of 3.0 / 3.2. ----------
