using CDE apps on old decwindows X servers

Hello Managers,

we are quite happy with the CDE implementation of DU4.0b and we had no
problem in modifying the font directories for running CDE applications on ncd
and tektronix X terminals.
However, we have a few old Vaxstations running OpenVMS V5.5-2HW that we would
like to use them for accessing cde clients running on our server DEC4000.

Apparently, we could get them working provided we find the way of telling them
about the font aliases used by CDE. We have tryed with a trivial copy of the
DU files under /lib/X11/fonts/cde into the VMS directories
SYS$COMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_100DPI]
SYS$COMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_75DPI]
SYS$COMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_COMMON]
but we did not succeed.

For instance, when we type the command dtfile
we get the following diagnostic:
Warning: Cannot convert string "-dt-interface user-medium-r-normal-s*-*-*-*-*-*
-
*-*-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Cannot convert string "-dt-interface user-medium-r-normal-s*-*-*-*-*-*
-
*-*-*" to type FontSet

We have seen that the latest OpenVMS release does support CDE. Would it be
possible to get the information about the right names, locations and contents
of those files ? Of course, we have no possibility of upgrading our old VMS :-)

Thanking you,

Giorgio Pastore
