We are experiencing problems with serail terminals (VT220 ->VT420) on
DEC Unix V4.0B.
Basically it seems that the flow control is not being handled by Unix at
all.
If I am connected using a VT420 at 19200 baud via a DECserver and I use
vi to edit a 300 line text file and then sit on the down arrow I get a
few pages down and then get all this crap on my screen and in the file.
The crap consists of ^S etc. which are flow control characters.
If I try the same thing on a V3.2C machine it works fine!
If I try it using a 9600 baud connection it works better although with a
bit of effort you can still upset the flow control.
I expect that the terminal cannot display the stuff fast enough when it
is being pushed down the line at 19200 baud. As Unix is not handling the
flow control properly all the ^S characters etc. are ending up in the
file.
By the way the stty settings are as follows:
#2 disc;speed 9600 baud; 24 rows; 80 columns
erase = ^?; werase = ^W; kill = ^U; intr = ^C; quit = ^\; susp = ^Z
dsusp = ^Y; eof = ^D; eol = <undef>; eol2 = <undef>; stop = ^S
start = ^Q; lnext = ^V; discard = ^O; reprint = ^R; status = <undef>
time = 0; min = 1
