Q: The machine was going well for severel days. Rebooted fine, everything
worked.
But, suddenly, after a 'shutdown -r or -h' the console got black and there
was standing a graphical mouse pointer.
Had to press reset buton, after 2 or 3 similar situations, the AS didn't
pass the 'Creating FRU binary error logging' message, after detecting all
the hardware.
One solution was to get the latest firmware, install it and it booted again.
Now, that happened 3 ou 4 time and now, even upgrading the firmware and
booting but the Digital UNIX 4.0B CD, won't pass that same message.

I got several answer saying to call DEC's engineer, or to recompile the
kernel.
But the real solution was brought by "Jeffrey G. Micono 6533 (Ktech)"
<jgmicon_at_sandia.gov> who sent me the following message:
>This is a WAG, but we had a similar problem with our AS2100.

>to the serial ports. Once I disconnected what was plugged into

I hadn't a serial device, except the PS/2 style mouse.
And... That was the problem!!
Unbelievably, after unplugging the mouse, the system allways rebooted and
allways shutdowned...
I even changed mouses, but the problem was allways the same when the mouse
was pluged in the port. I double checked all the connections and cleand the
dust from the IC's, but didn't solved the problem.
Anyway, I'm very happy with it now, even if can't work in the console.
I will call Digital to ask them if they can change the mouse port.
