Hi all,
we just purchased several "DE500" cards to use as
additional ethernet interfaces in a variety of
Alpha machines.
When they arrived, they turned out to be the newest
generation i.e the DE500-BA model.
Unfortunately they don't seem to be recognized at all
in the older Alphastation 255/233's running 4.0b with the
August jumbo patch and with the firmware from the v3.9
firmware CD (6.4).
A "show dev" at the console prompt does not show any
"ewb0" device, only the built in "ewa0".
However the new cards work fine in a brand new Personal
Workstation 433au (4.0c and v6.5.145 firmware).
We have many DE500-XA's and -AA's in other 255's and 600's
and have no problems with them.
From a bit of looking around I found that the -BA's have a
different ethernet chip, (following is from the windows readme.txt
on the DOS driver diskette: )
Model Ethernet Chip
===== =============
DE500-XA DC21140
DE500-AA DC21140A
DE500-BA DC21143
So does anyone know if the -BA's will work on older
model Alphastations at the moment? I've heard there
is a v4.0 firmware disk but we have not received it yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Karim.
