[Summary] How can I renumber devices of root file system

Solution:

I could have had DEC reposition the scsi cards to make my device rz24 again, but this seemed like
cheating. :-) There had to be something that could be done from a software level. And there was.
If I continued to boot off cdrom, there is an option on the screen to go to a unix shell. This
allowed me to do what was necessary to get the disk mounted read/write so I could create the new
device file and edit fstab.

Most people suggested the "mount -u /" option to make the root partition read/write after boot up.
Unfortunately this wouldn't work since fstab referenced the old device file (received error about
/dev/rz24a was invalid - of course it was since it was now rz32).
