vdump log file ??

Hi,
I thought this was a trivial operation. We want to have a log file of
the vdumps we perform.
We tried:

# vdump 0vf /dev/rmt4h / | tee logfile
AND
# vdump 0vf /dev/rmt4h / > logfile

These two commands do create "logfile" with 0 length.
What are we forgetting ?

thanks and regards,
UA
