ADVFS quota control problem!

Hi guys, here is a "mistery" from digital UNIX 4.0b... check it out!

We are running an alpha server with Digital Unix 4.0b, advfs (advanced
file systems), over 6500 accounts and user quotas.

Recently, We had to turn off the quota restriction because the system
gets wrong the amount of space some users are using. For example:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
#> vedquota bu00v
Quotas for user bu00v:
/var: blocks in use: 133, limits (soft = 200, hard = 400)
        inodes in use: 37, limits (soft = 0, hard = 0)
/home: blocks in use: 133, limits (soft = 0, hard = 1)
        inodes in use: 37, limits (soft = 0, hard = 1)
/estud: blocks in use: 141, limits (soft = 200, hard = 400)
        inodes in use: 44, limits (soft = 0, hard = 0)
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

But really, He only have the following files:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
/var : the "/var/spool/mail/bu00v" file, size 0.
/home : doesn't have any file.
/estud : 44 files, up to 138 KB of space.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

It seems that the accounting over "/estud" is working fine, but the "/var"
and "/home" filesystems don't, so when he tries to do something, he always
get some "quota exceeded" on "/var" or "/home".

- We've already tried turning off the quota restriction for EVERYBODY,
disabling quotas on the f.s. and rebooting the system (the ancient
  chinesse method); with no result.

Now we guess the quotas are not a cause, but a result of the advfs'
inhability to calculate the amount of space used by the users.

Any of you have experienced the same problem?
Is there a way to fix it?
maybe son advfscheck or something like that?

If any of you know any way to take us out of this "twilight zone", we'd
really appreciate your help.

Thanks a lot to all of you that read the entire message...
