I'm actually running vms on this system, but we found out from dec
the next day you can do this at the >>> prompt:

>>> set ewa0_mode fast
(it was set to twisted_pair ... change ewa0 as needed to match your
system.)

or on vms:
$ mc lancp
lancp> show dev ewa0/param

Device Parameters EWA0:
             Value Parameter
             ----- ---------
            Normal Controller mode
          External Internal loopback mode
 08-00-2B-E7-B6-32 Hardware LAN address
           CSMA/CD Communication medium
                32 Minimum receive buffers
                32 Maximum receive buffers
                No Full duplex enable
                No Full duplex operational
               AUI Line media
                10 Line speed (megabits/second)
lancp> set device ewa0/speed=100

as soon as we did this command we heard a click and the green light
was off and the amber was on... (amber =100mb)...

if you don't do it at the >>> you have to do it each reboot
and must make sure some startup file has it in there.

but for the unix people out there:
