Hello,
We have a ALPHAstation 600 5/333 running Digital Unix 4.0B
which is a dedicated Web Server. It has patch kit 5 installed.
It runs the Netscape Fastrack Server 2.01
We have sporadic performance problems and I wonder if anyone has any
thoughts ideas.
The Netscape Fastrack Server is a threaded server and I have done my best
to tune both DU and the Netscape Server itself for Thread utilization.
In sysconfigtab the following things are set among others:
maxusers=512
max-proc-per-user=512
max-threads-per-user=4096
I have configured the Netscape Server to handle 4096 threads also.
Anyhow, we get performance hits, that cause the Web Server to bog down.
It appears to be very busy.
If I run run the Netscape Server Monitor, it reports 98% to 99% thread
utilization and 1,200 to 1,500 threads in use. At these times the CPU
is doing virtually nothing, so its a network traffic thing I believe.
The CPU seems to be able to handle it.
The interface is a 100MB interface.
I would expect that 1,500 threads utilized would be more like 30% than
99%. I am confused by what Netscape's monitor reports.
Anyones help, thoughts, experiences greatly appreciated. I will summarize.
Netscape just released a Fastrack 3.0 server for DU 4.0. I am hoping this
be resolved without jumping into that upgrade to soon.
