We have an Alpha 200/100 on which we have attached some disks recycled from
our previous Ultrix systems (four RZ58 in two cabinets). The CPU is under
maintenance contract, but the old disks are not.
An user has reported errors on one such disks, so I did the following :
- reset the machine with the reset button (could not shutdown)
- show device
(did not see one disk, touched SCSI cables)
- show device
(now all disk were seen)
- boot in single user
cam_logger CAM_ERROR packet bus 0 target 2 lun 0
ss_perform_timeout
(ripeated 3-4 times)
Reached max abort count, scheduled bus reset
...
(could not get anywhere)
- switched off affected disk, reset machine
- show device
(see all remaining peripherals)
- boot in single user
I got a single CAM error message
bus 1 target 5
ss_device_reset_done
Bus detected reset ....
(this is a tape drive on the other SCSI bus)
- /sbin/bcheckrc
(the remaining disks are OK)
For the moment I'm keeping the machine on without the disks which gave me
problem. Anybody has an idea whether :
(a) it is a SCSI bus problem (in this case I can call maintenance since
the controllers are on the CPU)
(b) is a disk problem (in this case we have to fiddle ourselves, IF
the actual disks are not affected, but is something in the cabinet
we have two spare empty cabinets)
