Hi

My original posting was as below

I am having problem archiving files on to floppies using tar
command. I am having a few alphastation 500/333 running DU 4.0B
each of them have a 1.44MB floppy drive. when archiving data of more
than 1.4MB the tar command doesn,t ask me for the next floppy
instead it comes out without giving any error.
When extracting an archive from floppies it asks for next volume if the
archive is on multiple floppies.
on one of the workstation the system crashs when archiving at the point
it finishes writing to the first floppy.

I have no problem with my QIC's and Optical disks.
Any suggestions

I am thankful to

Most of them asking me to use gnu tar.

Thomas P Blinn wrote

tar -S2880b

tells tar your saving to a device that holds 2880 blocks; a 1.44MB flopp
will work just fine with that.

This is what i used

tar -cv -S2880b -f /dev/fd0a <file name>

thanks again to all
