Thanks for the responses.
Summary:
Dan Roscigno suggested to check the user startup files for an xmodmap call and
comment it out, and also have the user log off and log back on. I had done
that, the user had already removed it. He also suggested restarting the
terminal; that did the trick. I had to close the eXceed server on his
computer and restart it. I hate it when I panic and there's a simple
solution...
Knut Hellebų was partially right in that it was an eXceed problem, suggesting
that the user may have modified the keyboard mappings using the Xconfig
utility. I've now used that util to disable user modifications to keyboard
mappings; not sure if it will work, but worth a try.
Glenn Newbery was kind enough to send me a default .xmodmaprc file and an
.Xrdb file that might have helped me fix the F-keys. Unfortunately the .xrdb
file didn't work.
Question:
Under Xterm, all of the function keys work, specifically in Midnight
Commander. When running dXterm, mostly for the colour capability, none of the
first four function keys work, though 5-10 do. The TERM env var is set to
VT300 and the TERMCAP corresponds to this. I believe that this is where my
problem is, as the TERMCAP includes definitions for k1 through k4. However, I
can't figure out where these variables are being set. These aren't set in the
/etc/csh.login, ~/.cshrc, or the ~/.login .
I also don't know how to change the termcap once I do track it down. Could
someone please point me to a reference that would show me how to modify the
termcap or some other way of making the F-keys function as expected?
Thanks,
Jason Birch
