I'm trying to install a PCI Fast Ethernet option on 2 AlphaStation 255/
233 Mhz machines. One works fine, and the other doesn't seem to
recognize the hardware properly. The working machine is running
DU 4.0B (rev 564), has firmware V6.4-2 and has OSF PALCode V1.46-2.
The machine that is not working is running DU 4.0 (rev 386), has
firmware V6.0-943 and has OSF PALCode V1.46-1. When I power up the
non-working machine I get the following message before the >>> prompt:
eb.....ea.e9.e8.e7.e6.
*** Error(EWA0), 1.5
e5.
Also when I do a ">>> show config", it identifies the board as
"DECChip 21140 Network Controller", and it does not show the hardware
ethernet address of the board. On the working machine the board is
identified as "DE500A Network Controller" and shows the hardware
address.
I searched the archives and found that earlier versions of DU required
particular versions of firmware and patches to make the board work, but
I saw no specific references to DU 4.0 or later, nor to my particular
model of computer. If anyone knows of a particular version of firmware
that I need or any other helpful hints they'd be greatly appreciated.
I will summarize.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
