DEC NSR Problem: failing with too many open files!

Hi there,

I want to report on a problem which bugs me since serveral days, without
getting any step further to find a solution.
We are using DEC Network Save and Restore (NSR V3.1A) on DU Version 3.2C
with ADVFS filesets for the user home directories.
We have several clients and groups defined for our backup procedure of
system and user backup. In general NSR works fine, except on one user
directory tree. When NSR tries to backup this directory tree it fails with
the error message "Too many open files" after having writen about 500MB
to tape. I have tried to trace the location in the directory tree where
this happens without success. If I cut down the number of users to backup
from this partition, NSR fails at a different location in the tree.
This specific user partition is the largest one in our cluster with about
3 GB and 150 users on it.

Did anyone else encounter similar problems when using NSR? Or has someone
a clue what the cause of this problem may be (fileset size too large?,
too many symbolic links?, bad OS-system parameter limits?)?
Many thanks, for any help or comment!
Best regards
