Hello,
In order to reduce I/O contention, we plan to move several HSZ40 disks from
on BA-35x to another one, in order to change the port to which they are
connected and better spread the I/O between RAID disks and single
containers. I've read the HSZ40 docs a couple of times but I have not found
any topic dealing about this problem.
We would like this to be as painless as possible and would like to retain
our current logical unit numbers (I mean Target + 0 + LUN numbers) and O/S
device names.
We have spare drives in quantity. Is there a way to "COPY" a drive to
another one and then tell the HSZ40 that one of the physical devices has
"moved" provided there is NO activity on the devices at the time this is
done.
Is the following OK for SINGLE DISKS containers ?
a) dismount all filesets residing on the drive we want to move
b) Use HSZ software and remove the logical unit
c) Physically move disk(s) to another port/BA35x
d) Recreate the HSZ40 lun WITHOUT initializing it
e) Re-mount the filesets
What about multiple disks containers ? Can we just use the spareset
feature, place a new drive in the spareset, physically remove ONE drive
from a container, let the HSZ40 rebuild the container, put the OLD drive in
the spareset, procede in a similar menner with other disks/containers ? It
sound risky to me and I think there must be a safer, easier, better and
faster way to do this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
