AlphaStation v. 21164A in a PC

I'm curious to know if you managers out there who've run Digital Unix on both
an AlphaStation (21164A) and a PC (again, 21164A) can comment on the relative
performance of the machines.

I need to make a hardware recommendation to my advisor and the
price/performance of the PCs with AXP chips is attractive. The machines are to
be replacements of ULTRIX and VAX boxes and are used for software development.
