Since I haven't received my SUMMARY from the list I will resend it
again.

Original question was:

I have installed the bash shell version 1.14.4 on a AXPVME running
D-Unix 3.2C. Using this shell at a terminal o X enviroment provides no
problem. But if I try to access the alpha with ftp I get the message
'access denied' directly after typing the username.

If I use csh as shell everything is alright. This is my workaround.

What is the problem with bash and ftpd?

The problem was solved very simply.

The shell bash has to be listed in the /etc/shells file. After that
there were no problems with ftp anymore.

Many thanks for the numerous replies.
