I helped set up a firewall recently and have noticed some strange behavior. If you
use netscape to download an hqx file to a MAC through
the firewall it downloads it as text into the browser. If you bypass the
firewall (modem) it unstuffs it and saves it to disk. Netscape on the mac is set
up to run unstuffit on application/macintosh-binhex40 and the type is declared
in the mime.types file on the firewall in the proxy server directory. I actually
tried this from PCs and UNIX too. It should be an unknown data type, but they
all treat it as text. Mosaic works fine of course.
Has anyone else seen this? If so is it a netscape bug, or a firewall
configuration problem? All other ftp clients go through just fine. Any
suggestions at all would be appreciated
