Restoring a backup to /dev/null ?

Hello,

We just bought a brand new TZ88 unit and we want to test the unit.
Yesterday, we made a backup of HUGE filesets on it with vdump. Now, I would
like to restore the backup somewhere else (I don't want to overwrite
anything) to check that the device can read the data correctly before using
it to do our backups. I don't have anough spare space to restore my backup
somewhere else right now. So I wonder if there is a way to restore the
backup to the data sink (/dev/null). I'll assume that if the tape can read
all the data without any read errors, it is working fine. I know I won't be
able to ensure that I did not read junk but at least I will be more confident.

I know there is a way to tell vdump to redirect it's output to a file or a
pipe, but I have not found anything useful in the vrestore documentation. If
anyone has an idea, feel free to send me an answer.

For example, can I read the data with something other than vrestore ? Can I
treat the backup as if it was a tar file or something like that ?

Thanks in advance !
