Metadata space

Hey Gang,

I'm running news on a 4 Gb disk with an advfs file
system. I keep running out of metadata space and would
be interested in knowing if anyone has any suggestions
as to how much would be ample for a disk this size with
the zillions of small files that news creates.

I use the -x option of mkfdmn to set the extent size (in
pages). Last time I used 512 pages, quadruple the default
size, but it wasn't anywhere near adequate. I'm upgrading
the system this weekend from 3.2c to 4.0b, so it will be
a perfect time to remake the file domain. Yet again.

I do *not* wish to ever encounter this problem on this disk
again. Restoring 3+ Gb of news files is not my idea of a
good time.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers,
Lyn
