Problems booting 2100a 5/300 for DUnix, hangs...

Dear all....

We have had a test 2100a 5/300, 2 CPU, 512Mb memory for a while, with
an external boot disk (on a KZPAA-AA) running DUnix 3.2g (and Sybase 11), which
has been running very well. We got a replacement machine, identically configured (the
first had to be returned, for reasons I won't go into...), and I did an NT 3.51 install on the
2G RZ28 disk that came with the new system, and ran it under NT for a while, to exercise it.

Anyway, it came time to dismantle the first box, so I ran the ECU 1.9 diskette (for VMS/Unix), on
the 2nd machine to set it up for Unix, moved the disks from the first, and the boot process hangs
after the line "jumping to bootstrap code" (the next line should look something like "OSFboot.....).
I also tried booting off the DU 3.2g CD, this hung also.

Thinking I had made an error in running the ECU, I did it again. (Incidentally, there are differing instructions
on how to run the ECU in the Owner's Guide page 3-27, where it is recommended that the Halt button
be in on power-up before running ECU, while in the CPU Upgrade manual, page 5-2, no mention is
made of the Halt button position. Which is right?)
This time round, the system booted off the CD. But moving a system disk to the machine, and
trying to boot off it, again failed. And I can't boot from the CD anymore...

Any ideas?

Machine details at end... All the firmware and cards etc. are identical on both machines.

Please reply to: oisin_at_sbcm.com, and I will summarize if appropriate.

Thanks!
