g77 Problem

I have successfully compiled gcc and g++ for DU4.0 They work fine.
However, although g77 does compile, I continue to get the following
run time error every time I try to use it.

gcc: Internal compiler error: program f771 got fatal signal 6

Has anyone else run into this and, if so, found a solution.
