C2 username length

I'm currently running DU 4.0 on a test system (3000-400).
I've noticed that C2 usernames can't be longer than 8 characters, is there
any way out of this? I've initially traced the problem to the cuserid()
function and a #define in stdio.h, but i don't have the sources to modify
things. Thnx,
