Here's one to knaw on,
I need to read a 3480 tape with variable length record/block, written in
ebcdic, but with binary information imbedded in the record into a parser
on Digital UNIX. No the parser part is done if we read the tape using
the VAX Etape program which actually was able to handle the problem,
creating a VAX RMS based file with correct record length information.
Now I need a utility free if possible, commercial if necc. to do this.
Can dd do this?
Now I'm sure we are not the first people who have had to do this in the world.
We have a very large backlog of tapes to be converted for our database and
the VAX is overloaded and dying quick. Not to mention the Unix box is
a screamer compared to the VAX we have.
Any ideas?
