The solution:

Replies indicated that you could, indeed, run an Alpha 255 on
version 3.2, preferably 3.2d or greater. The fix was to install
Open3D, then the Open3D subset for the particular graphics card
which the system has. In my case, the user had purchased and
installed a ZLXp-L2 (or something like that), so that when I
installed the following subset, all was well.

O3DDWSZLXL340 installed DWS Open3D ZLX-L, ZLXp-L V3.4

Great thanks for the many replies. This list has saved my sanity
