su question, never mind...

Mea Culpa...

Someone had installed a freeware version of su in a directory that
was in front of /usr/bin in my path variable.

Executing the proper su command fixed the problem.

Ignore the question. Sorry about that, I shoulda checked for that but then
hindsight is 20-20 :-)
