Thanks again to the many people who answered my questions.

Here are my Original Posts and the answers I found:

Question A)

We've got a pair of HSZ40-BF (Software=V2.7) and we recently bought a New
TZ-88N-VA DLT Drive. The drive seems to run fine with the HSZ40, but the
HSZ40 software spd does not mention the TZ88 in the list of supported tape
devices.

We have no problems with our other TAPE (A TZ87) and I was wondering if I
can expect problems with the TZ88. I searched the www.digital.com site but
did not find anything useful. Is there a place on the internet where we can
check compatibility between devices BEFORE ordering stuff ?

We also received a letter from DEC mentionning a free upgrade of the HSZ40's
software (maybe the new release does support the TZ88 in a "regular" manner)
and we sent back the coupon to receive the upgrade since 2-3 months now. We
did not receive anything back from DEC. Did someone receive/not receive the
sofware after completing the request ?

                                Thanks !

Answers:

The TZ88N-VA is directly supported by the new HSOF software (Release 3.02)
with the following restictions:

        - cannot read TK50, TK70, TZ30 format tapes.
        - requires KZPSA or PMAZC host adapter.
        - not supported by Windows NT.

In my case, it does work with V2.7 version of HSOF, probably because it is
almost identical to the TZ87 which is supported. Anyway, I'll do the upgrade
as soon as possible.

Someone gave me the following number that you can try when you are not sure
wether device X is supported by OS Y or controller Z:

800-DEC-SALE. They have tech info not even carried on the web site.

As for the delay when ordering the upgrade, most people who responded got
their new software pretty fast after sending an e-mail to
pcmcia_at_wmois.enet.dec.com with Customer ID, Contract ID, and number of
controllers.

I Called and Faxed a new form to DEC today. The e-mail I sent them probably
went to the bit bucket somewhere along the line...

Question B)

Hello,

I have 2 HSZ40's configured in dual redundant and I'm running V2.7 software.
I have a couple of easy questions.

1st question:

"I'm trying to run the cfmenu program via the hszterm utility. It doesn't
work. I read the man page of hszterm and I set and exported the HSZTERM_RUN
variable before running hszterm. Once in hszterm, whenever I try the 'RUN
CFMENU' command, I receive an 'Illegal RUN Command' error message". Also,
which LUN am I supposed to use when I call the hszterm program ? Should I
use the LUN of a configured device or should I use the LUN of the controler
itself ?

2nd question:

Whenever I 'warm swap' a device from one of the BA356's connected to the
HSZ40, after device removal, waiting 1-2 minutes, and device re-insertion, I
get the following message after each command I issue at the controler's
console (or through hszterm). I receive that message even if I only press
RETURN.

SWAP signal cleared - all swap interrupts re-enabled.

The only way I found of getting ride of this message (which by the way I
don't undertand at all (like most HSZ40 messages)) was to run CFMENU and
exit. After CFMENU is run, the messages disapear. There must be a better way
(other than using Microsoft's stuff :-) )

Answers:

a) There is no way to run some programs from the hszterm utility (it is
written in the docs but not clear in the man page). I simply forgot that
there was an online manual other than the man page about the hszterm
utility. I just hate dxbook and I don't have a PostScript printer, so I
forgot to 'distil' the manual and print it with adobe adrobat: Mea culpa.

Anyway, it is written in this manual:

"It will never allow running the utilities CFMENU, VTDPY, DILX or TILX,
even when they are included in the list specified by HSZTERM_RUN."

As for the LUN that should be used to connect the hszterm virtual terminal
to the HSZ40 controller, you should use any LUN (device side) that is NOT
configured. For example, in TZL nomenclature, if the D204 unit is configured
and you want to remove it, DON'T use Target 2 LUN 4 with hszterm, because
when you'll remove the D204 unit, you'll also lose your hszterm !

b) That was an easy one: Use CLEAR_ERRORS CLI on each controller. By
default, the controller issues such errors before each prompt as long as the
controller is not reset or the CLEAR CLI command is not issued.
