Modifying filesystem from Single User Boot or bypass rc.config

Hi,

I have managed to add a bad line at the end of /etc/rc.config, which
locks up my Digital UNIX 4.0 running on an Alpha Server 4/233.

I made a copy of the file in /etc as rc.config.ok before I modified it.
I can currently boot to Single User mode, and can see both files in
/etc, but am unable to write to the file system (as it is read only) (I
just want to copy rc.config.ok over rc.config, then boot to multiuser
mode.

The instructions for accessing the file system given in the User
Information Manual for modifying the file system don't give me write
access. (they fail on the line

mkdir -p /etc/fdmns/root_domain, saying the fiel ssytem is read only.

Does any one know how to either

a) Boot to Multi-user mode without running my line of code, OR
b) Copying the ok copy of rc.config over the bad copy from the Single
User boot prompt?

I'm obviously pretty desparate!! Please mail me direct at
100144.3120_at_compuserve.com,

Thanks in advance

-Steve
