Hello,
I understand from your collegue Dave Parker that you might be able
to give me a clue about disktab entries and disklabel results.
When connecting a big disk (from an HDS5700 RAID array seen as a
standard rz disk from the host) to a Digital host running Digital
Unix 4.0, something goes wrong when running the disklabel command.
The disktab entry is as follows;
df300¦DF300¦5742:\
:ty=winchecter:dt=SCSI:ns#96:nt#16:nc#21171:rm#5400:\
:oa#:pa#32521728:ba#8192:fa#1024:\
:ob#0:pb#o.....
:oc#0:pc#32521728:bc#8192:fc#1024:\
............................
After we ran the command disklabel -rw rrz24a df300, here is the result
of a disklabel -r rrz24a :
bytes/track: 512
sectors/track:96
tracks/cylinder :16
sectors/cylinder: 520 ?? should be 1536
cylinders: 21171
.............
............
8 partitions:
size offset
a: 32521728 0 .................. # ( cyl. 0 - 62541* )
...........................................
The sc value is no good (520, instead of 1536). Worse again, the
cylinder range (0-62541) used in the partition table has been
calulated with the good su value and the wrong sc value.
What could cause this sort of malfunction and/or miscalculation ?
Apparently, it is possible to force the right sc value by adding the
right value in the disktab entry. Is it the right solution ?
Thank you very much for your time and your help.
Best regards,
