Hello,
a) Following good practice, we admins have started using a regular account
and su to root when needed, instead of directly login in with the root account.
I noticed that when I su from my regular account to root, all my environment
variables follow, but all the bourne shell functions of my regular account
are unavailable once I have become root. Is this normal ? Is there a way to
access them once I am root ?
b) When I log in from a telnet session on a LAN or from the console to our
servers, the backspace key on the keyboard behaves normally. But when I log
from home with a modem, the backspace produces a CTRL-H instead and I have
to use the "stty erase ^H" command to get it working. Is there a way to set
it in a good way "automagically". This backspace problems occurs in a
regular (getty) serial connection as well as with a PPP connection.
TIA
