My original question was:

Thanks a lot to Jim Belonis <belonis_at_dirac.phys.washington.edu> who send
me a document with some info about NIS running with C2 (if there is
someone interested in this document, just email me).
The decision we made was to share the tcb database with all the machines,
since it was what the document recommended.
