I am new at Unix administration as you may discern from
my question. So If I am in the wrong place please let
me know.
We are currently running DU-2.0 on a DEC 3000/400. I find
that we have to upgrade to version 4.0A to run the new
version of our genetics software. It appears that I
cannot do an upgrade installation and that I must do a
full installation. My question is what happens
to my users and password files? Will there be a problem
if I backup usr/users and etc/passwd...install version 4.0A,
and then restore /usr/users and etc/passwd? Will this
perserve everyones data and their passwords?
Any other helpful hints on the installation would be
appreciated.
Thanks for the help
