Making Shared Libraries

Well, I searched the archives for info on making shared libraries, but I
can't seem to find anything. So....

I have a package that takes extended log information on our web server
called Interse Market Focus. It does serious analysis of your web logs.
They provide extensions to the log file service that gives some information
we would like, over and above the regular information. They provide 2 files
and direct you to create a shared library (.so file). I have never had to
create a shared library and only have a very basic idea of how to do so.

Does anyone who has done something like this before have any tips? Any
info at all is welcome.
