There were many replies on how to fix this - it appears that this is a well-
known problem. The replies fell into four groups:

1. Use the command "netscape -install" to have netscape install its own
colormap. Primary drawback is that the rest of the screen has some rather
unique colors when the netscape window has the focus and the netscape colors
get interesting when it doesn't have the focus. Characterizations of the
effect ranged from "carnival colors" to a "bad acid flashback."

2. Use the command "netscape -no-install" to use the default colormap
instead of creating its own.

3. Limits the number of colormap entries that netscape can use by using the
command "netscape -ncols nn" where nn is empiricaly determined. Suggestions
for "nn" ranged from 220 to 48 with 64 to 96 being the most common.

4. Add a limit in the .Xdefaults file for the number of colors netscape
is allowed to use with the line

Netscape*maxImageColors: nn

where nn is less than 256 (range 220 to 48 as in #3).

Options 3 and 4 seem to be good choices for now. Many thanks to all who
