I have 4 Alpha 3300s which I recently upgraded the memory on using
Kingston 64MB memory kits. Two of the four experienced the same problem -
when a boot was attempted the system didn't even reach the first hardware
checks. All of the internal diagnostic red leds, except for the second
from the back, remained lit up. The same results happened when the
original memory was put back. I eventually got them going after reseating
the memory a number of times so I chalked it up to bad contacts on the
memory slots.
Now however, after a catastrophic crash, it would seem that
neither the type of memory, or the particular slot its in, are a factor. I
did get this particular workstation going again (not me exactly, I suspect
divine intervention here), but I don't have alot of faith in it staying
up. Has anyone encountered this kind of flakey behavior before? Any
recommendations will be appreciated. And if not, well, I feel better just
talking about it - its been a long day... :)
