Thanks to the following for puting me in the right direction to get
JDK 1.0.2 for DU.

Rick Muse <m6u_at_oaunx1.ctd.ornl.gov>
rlandes_at_fphws01.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de
Yizhong Zhou <zhou_at_mathworks.com>
Chad Wray <cwray_at_diac.com>
Neil Schellenberger <nschelle_at_crosskeys.com>
"Richard Eisenman" <eisenman_at_tricity.wsu.edu>

There were several answers. Of these the best two (IMHO) were to go to

 http://www.unix.digital.com/products/internet/java.html

        or

 http://www.osf.org/mall/web/JDK/

The former points you at a DEC-produced JDK 1.02 which requires 4.0 or
better.

The latter requires that you register with OSF and you have 3.2 or
better. I have 3.2 and the osf.org JDK it seems to work just fine!
