First of all I would like to thank...
Magali BERNARD
Tom Rioux
Spider Boardman
for their speedy responses...

However, the "correct" answer was that I had done nothing wrong...
The quota was set fine but the quotacheck command doesnot work in such
events...
it doesnt what it it sounds like doing...

The final way of checking was to login into that account and type quota and
see that the quota was indeed activated...

This "obvious" thing came to the attention of Synet-DEC Hellas engineer K.
Tsekoura after a few minutes of cross-examination. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

PS. The disks were obviously unmounted during the reboot I had performed
since the fs of concerned is our WWWroot and almost always busy....
Also, the rq,userquota, groupquota doesnot work on ufs but on advfs... so
DECs on Line Manual (Bookreader) is indeed right

I leave the initial concern for reference of those who are setting up for
the first time quotas and dont have their manual handy:

Creating quotta for user X

> 1 ensured that option QUOTA exists at /sys/conf
> 2 edited fstab so that it now reads for the fs of interest:
> /dev/vol/rootdg/vol01 /data_disk1 ufs rw,userquota,groupquota 1 4
> 3 used quotacheck to create the quotafile
> 4 used edquota X to input the values
> 5. turned quotaon
> 6 used /usr/sbin/rcmgr set QUOTA_CONFIG yes to ensure that when the
system
> boots it will check for quottas...
> 7 Dont use quotacheck to verify its creation!!!!!

Thanks again
