Yes, they are compatible. As long as the chipset is Digital, it'll
work. I am running with SMC Etherpower, which has the same Digital
21041 chip as the three times more expensive DEC cards have. Works like
charm! The Digital Unix recognizes it as "Tulip ethernet interface".
Both 10 Mbit and 100 Mbit SMC's work fine, BTW. The Etherpower is
available for both speeds and as a 10 Mbit/s combo-card
(RJ-45/BNC), too.
Of course, you should test the card, they may always contain
bugs. For example, one card model I tested would hang, if
you transferred large amounts of data through it.
