adding a second CPU

OSF managers,

I am going to add a second CPU to my Alpha 4000 system running Digital
Unix 4.0b. Do I need to re-compile the kernel?

I read the on-line documentation on Optimizing Application and CPU
Performance and mention about the lock_mode:
        uniprocessing - 0
        SMP - 1

I have no intention to switch to real-time preemption. Do I need to
change the lock_mode and how can I do it on /etc/sysconfigtab file?
