First, my apologies that this question is not of a technical nature, but I need the advice/opinions
of other OSF people.
Recently, I logged a support request with the digital hotline concerning a problem I was having
using NetWorker Save and Restore (NSR) to back up 2 Windows NT (Alpha) clients. We use NSR to back
up clients on other platforms as well - HP-UX, Solaris, DEC UNIX, etc.
The final recommendation was to obtain and install the latest version of NSR NT Alpha client kit.
Fine. So I asked how I can obtain the client kit for NT Alpha? The response was that I needed to
order (purchase) the Digital Client Kit (DCK) which includes the client software for Alpha NT,
Digital Unix, and OpenVMS.
Well,I know that the NSR Server and client kit for DEC UNIX is on the associated products CD. The NT
client is NOT included on the CD. Should I really have to *purchase* client kits for other DEC
platforms?? We have a software maintenance contract and subscribe to the software update service
for UNIX and OpenVMS. We are fully licensed for NSR. It seems to me that I shouldn't have to order
or purchase these updates.
Can anyone enlighten me on this topic? Any similar or opposite experiences out there? Is this
standard, or am I being mis-directed?
