Dear all,
Our production Oracle has suddenly stopped working. When I start it up it
gives the following error lines:

############## start of error mesg #################
Oracle7 Server Release 7.3.2.3.0 with the 64-bit option - Production
Release
PL/SQL Release 2.3.2.3.0 - Production

SVRMGR> Connected to an idle instance.
SVRMGR> ORA-07307: sms1sg: shmat error, unable to attach sga.
DEC OSF/1 (AXP) Error: 12: Not enough space
Additional information: 1
SVRMGR>
Server Manager complete.

Database "MAIN" warm started.
############## end of error mesg #################

At this point the startup script just hangs for quite a few mintutes
before it times out. If a user tries to use a database he gets:

############## start of error mesg #################
SQL*Plus: Release 3.3.2.0.0 - Production on Fri Jul 31 17:26:47 1998

Copyright (c) Oracle Corporation 1979, 1994. All rights reserved.

ERROR: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-07429: smsgsg: shmget() failed to get segment.
DEC OSF/1 (AXP) Error: 2: No such file or directory
############## end of error mesg #################

I tried to create a new database but I got the same error. I even boot the
machine into single user mode with the same result (boot into single user
mode just to make sure that "the shared space" is not taken up by some
other process).

Any hint is greatly appreciated.

cheers,
Hossein
