Hi, all. There have been some messages on the list recently about the new
NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX Version 5.2 licensing. I got a request from the
folks in our Storage products group in Seattle, WA (where the engineering
and product management work for the NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX software has
been done) to pass the following information along. I didn't write it, and
I don't know a lot about the details, but there's an address at the bottom
to get more information, as well as a web page pointer.
There is a deadline involved to get the new version license if you have a
current license and wish to get the new version. Read the details below.
If you want the update license at the best price from Digital, you need to
act by September 1, 1998, if I understand the offer correctly. I realize
this is soon, I apologize on behalf of all of us if this is a problem, I am
only the messenger.

NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX Version 5.2 new licensing scheme
NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX, Version 5.2, utilizes a new licensing scheme and
customers who wish to upgrade should purchase RTNV/MDDS
A new release of NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX -- Version 5.2 -- will be
available in August 1998. This new version of NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX has
several new features that will greatly enhance your NetWorker system
including storage nodes (special NetWorker clients with attached remote
storage devices), failover capability for storage nodes, high performance
backup to disk, and saveset staging. In addition, as part of this new
version, the product will use a different license management tool that uses
enabler and permanent authorization codes (as currently utilized by the
NetWorker for Windows NT product) instead of the current LMF license
management tool. LMF will only continue to be recognized through December
1998.
All customers who have Right To New Version (RTNV) are entitled to this new
version of NetWorker for DIGITAL UNIX and their current LMF licenses will be
replaced with enabler and permanent authorization codes. If the customer has
RTNV then they will be asked to send existing LMF information from their
system to DIGITAL. Stay tuned for more information. The customer should also
ensure they have purchased MDDS (media and documentation update service) in
order to obtain the software product. If a customer does not have RTNV/MDDS
then they should sign up for RTNV/MDDS no later than September 1, 1998 in
order to have the rights to receive this new version.
