Is it possible to shrink an AdvFS partition?

Greetings. I'm trying to find out if it's possible to shrink an AdvFS
partition using the Digital Unix logical-volume manager? That is, I'd like
to do this "on the fly", without doing the usual backup-repartition-restore
procedure. The GUI tool has a slider which moves in both directions, and
I'd like to prune a little space out of a /usr partition on a newly-arrived
Alpha (running Digital UNIX V4.0D (Rev. 878)). On the other hand, the
system currently ain't broke, and I'd just as soon not learn any lessons
the hard way right now. I recall that under AIX, for instance, one can
expand, but not shrink, an existing partition. The man page doesn't appear
to address this issue.

Thanks.
