OSF/1 problem

Hi there,

I have a DEC machine running OSF/1 V3.2 , which used to be a NIS client.

I'm trying to configure this machine as an independent machine now, and
in order to do that I :

        - Edited the /etc/passwd file , including the registers for my
users (with their encrypted passwords in the second field).
I got these registers and their passwords from the NIS MASTER
files (/etc/passwd and /etc/security/passwd on an AIX system).
I kept the original system users (bin, daemon, cron, etc)
        - Edited the /etc/group file , including the registers for my
users' groups (also got the registers on the NIS MASTER files).
I kept the original system groups (bin, daemon, cron, etc)
        - Removed the NIS client configuration using the "setup" tool
        - Executed the mkpasswd command

For most of the users (not all of them) the passwords don't seem to work :
I get the message "Login incorrect". I also can not change these users'
passwords, even if I do it as root user : I get the message "Password not
changed: cannot access protected password entry".

I could not find any reference on the few manuals I have, so any help is
welcome. This is the only OSF/1 machine we have, so sorry if I don't have
enough experience and if I'm doing a silly question.

Thanks in advance,
